The Proposal
In January 2017, BioMarin approached Hays Life Sciences to recruit a new Executive Director of Medical Affairs to join their organisation in London. The posting would be vital to BioMarin’s continued success and strategic direction, so needed to be of the highest quality.
Solution & outcome
Within 5 weeks, Hays Life Sciences found and engaged a shortlist of hard-to-find senior professionals who fit and exceeded BioMarin’s requirements. Following a successful placement, and due to the rapid and extremely effective recruitment process, Hays was selected to build out the company’s entire Medical Affairs function across Europe, which included some of the following roles:

Since that initial placement in 2017, only one of the professionals placed by us has left the organisation, which is an impressive retention rate. There have been three promotions in that time from Senior to Executive level and Executive to Vice President, including the fastest promotion in the company’s history from Senior Director to Executive Director (in just 12 months).
To ensure BioMarin continues to have access to a talent pipeline, we produced market maps to provide a clear database of candidates that we spoke with. This involved mapping out direct competitors in the marketplace for people with experience in haemophilia therapies. We have been their trusted partner in virtually all Director level hires within the company since the initial placement in 2017.
