Leadership salaries in education will vary depending on the type and size of the institution you’re working in, along with your exact job profile and responsibilities.
A SENCO or Director of Inclusion could typically earn over £50,000, while a deputy headteacher could expect to earn over £60,000. Headteacher salaries are divided into eight groups, with the higher end of the bracket able to earn well over £100,000. Likewise, CEOs and CFOs for large institutions or trusts can command salaries far exceeding £100,000.

If you’re looking to become a headteacher, you’ll typically need several years of experience working as a fully qualified teacher. Most headteachers will step up from a leadership position, such as a head of year or deputy headteacher.
Having a national professional qualification (NPQ) may help develop your expertise, knowledge, and ability to lead change. There are NPQs for senior leadership, headship, executive leadership, and early years leadership, all offered by the Department of Education.
