CLINICAL OPERATIONS JOBS FAQs

Clinical research salaries can be very lucrative, but exact remuneration will depend on your expertise and job profile.

A clinical trial associate working for a CRO can expect to earn approximately £33,000 a year, while project managers are able to earn £60,000-£75,000. Directors can command six-figure salaries.

In the pharma sphere, salaries are generally comparable.

See our Salary Guide for a more detailed breakdown of clinical research salaries.

The choice to work for a CRO or a pharma company may come down to culture, with CROs typically being faster-paced and providing more varied work opportunities. Certain CROs may even offer higher salaries than pharma companies, but this will largely depend on your specific role.

On the other hand, pharma companies – particularly well-established ones – may offer greater job security, with CROs being reliant on their clients. Pharma companies also often give you access to the most innovative technology and work environments.

Innovations in technology and data-usage – such as natural language processing (NLP) – are allowing for fast-tracked clinical trials and are accelerating the development of life-saving products.
