Hays reveals the top ten jobs for 2023

1 January 2023

Hays, the leading specialist in workforce solutions and recruitment, has revealed the top ten jobs set to continue to increase in demand into 2023.

The top ten list is based on demand from employers and job listings across the UK, and the roles included are commanding above average pay increases. The list comes as over half (58%) of workers said they intend to look for a new job in 2023 according to the Hays Salary & Recruiting Trends 2023 which surveyed over 13,000 professionals and employers.

Jobs featured in the top ten list include energy/sustainability managers as the drive for green jobs continues. Those with the required skillsets are in short supply, and there’s plenty of opportunities for individuals wanting to build their sustainability careers.

Other roles featured in the top ten include electrical engineers, a role which continues to sit on the UK Government’s shortage occupation list. Engineers working in this sector will typically hold a degree in electrical engineering or a related subject such as physics, software engineering or computer science.

TOP TEN JOBS FOR 2023

Simon Winfield, Managing Director of Hays UK & Ireland, comments: “As we begin a New Year, despite economic challenges, there remains over 1.1million unfilled jobs in the UK – leaving lots of opportunity for those who want to look for a new role next year.

Employers are continuing to face skills shortages across the majority of industries, particularly those with acute shortages included in our top ten list – engineering, construction, and technology, to name a few.

If you are considering a move in 2023, think about not only how your skillset can meet the current demand, but how an organisation could help you build your career in the future and what matters to you in a job. Whether that’s work-life balance, sustainability credentials, organisational purpose, training, or career development, making smart choices for the long-term will be critical if you want to thrive in a rapidly evolving jobs market.”
