Design Engineer - Hybrid - North Down

Your new company

Hays collaborates with an established business engaged in designing, building, and maintaining water and wastewater assets and infrastructure across various markets, including Municipal, Industrial, Food & Beverage, Dairy, and Pharmaceutical. Due to an influx of new projects, this company is actively seeking a Design Engineer to join their team based in Bangor, Co Down. Ideally, they are looking for someone with a mechanical or construction background.

Your new role

As part of your role, you’ll provide management support across the business, actively participating in design and optioneering exercises. These exercises aim to transform initial client concepts or requirements into practical solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with both internal and external clients to precisely identify their needs. Additionally, you’ll create detailed designs in compliance with sector norms and ISO standards. For this, you’ll utilise Autodesk Revit for 3D modelling and AutoCAD for 2D sketching and detailed construction drawings. Furthermore, conducting site-based surveys will be essential to understand project requirements fully. During these surveys, you’ll meet with client representatives and gather information to inform you about optimal design solutions. Lastly, you’ll play a crucial role in managing the production of design deliverables for specific projects, working alongside other team members and providing necessary technical guidance.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in securing this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills. First, proficiency in 2D and 3D modelling using tools like AutoCAD or Revit is essential. Ideally, you should have 3–5 years of previous design experience, preferably within a mechanical engineering or construction environment. A strong background in mechanical design, coupled with a working knowledge of electrical systems and process control, is crucial. Additionally, having a good understanding of common treatment processes and associated equipment in the water industry and wastewater sectors would be desirable. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you’ll need to build and maintain relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
Lastly, the ability to generate a bill of materials is also important for this role.
