Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a new opportunity in September 2025? Hays Education is recruiting on behalf of a highly respected secondary special school in Salford that supports students aged 11–19 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autism (ASC), moderate to severe learning difficulties (MLD/SLD), and communication and sensory needs. This is a full-time, term-time role starting in September, initially on a temporary basis, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in special schools, SEN units, or alternative provision settings.

Your New Role as a SEND Teaching Assistant
In this rewarding role, you will:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with complex learning needs
  • Assist with personal care, mobility, and communication support (training provided)
  • Use tools such as PECS, Makaton, or AAC to aid communication
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SENCOs to deliver tailored learning
  • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to support
  • Confidence supporting students with personal care and sensory needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is desirable
  • Enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to apply)
