Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a Chester-based SEND school that supports pupils between the ages of 4–16 with complex and profound ASD, LD, non-verbal and behavioural needs, as they are looking to appoint a number of motivated and reliable teaching assistants for the new academic year. This is a long-term full-time temporary position with the working hours consisting of 8:45am - 4:45pm Monday to Friday.


Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be joining an extremely supportive and welcoming team of like-minded professionals. You will offer 1:1 support to pupils across the school, all of whom have individual EHCP's and varying SEN that include ASD, LD, non-verbal and behavioural needs. Due to the needs of the students within the school, the class sizes are small as to ensure that their needs, both academic and physical, are at the heart of all operations, with a full support structure within each class that includes a class teacher and up to 4 teaching assistants. Your duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • PECs and Makaton
  • Speech and language interventions including liaison with SALT
  • Behaviour interventions
  • Implementation of positive behaviour strategies i.e., reward charts/DOJO, sensory circuits, sensory therapy, bucket therapy etc.
  • Further development of ISPs

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable classroom experience, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEN that including ASD, LD, non-verbal, and/or behavioural needs

  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract

  • An NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification is advantageous but not essential
