Data Engineer - Permanent - Bristol

Your new role

The roles primary responsibility will be the development and continuous improvement of data infrastructure, including working within the agile delivery teams to develop new solutions/enhancements and supporting the technical services team with any LIVE issues. You will also be responsible for building data solutions to requirements, root cause analysis and resolution of issues/bugs, demoing work to all levels of stakeholders in collaboration with various teams (e.g. project, training and adoption and IT support team), and providing technical expertise / guidance as required. Ensure any technical changes are made in accordance with the chosen delivery methodology in line with coding standards, deployment controls and testing frameworks.


You will be the internal technical expert for work across data applications and be responsible for knowing what changes have been made to the base applications alongside understanding how partner frameworks can be leveraged appropriately. You'll play a critical role in delivering high-quality data solutions for efficient data processing, analysis and visualisation.

Key accountabilities of the role include;
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise to design and implement data-based solutions satisfying user requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners in implementing the best solution for certain circumstances and requirements.
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and be aware of industry standards, best practices, and trends.
  • Work closely with our development partners to understand their capabilities and how we can leverage these as much as possible within the development process.
  • Provide feedback, advise and informed opinion where appropriate.
  • Ability to impart your knowledge to all types of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Communicates complex technical problems clearly either via demos, documentation and knowledge sharing to all manner of stakeholders.
  • Able to listen and communicate to stakeholders to understand their challenges.
  • Produce and maintain clear, effective documentation.
  • Support the QA team with smoke testing and functional testing as and when required
  • Able to understand 3rd Party applications, and how they interact with our features.
  • Able to anticipate and advise of any unexpected implications of suggested system changes
  • Working closely with BAs to clearly understand business requirements and questioning unclear requirements where necessary.
  • Good communication in stand-ups, with stakeholders, and the rest of the project team
  • Proactively identifies areas where certain solutions can be improved.
  • Eager to learn and to proactively improve own knowledge through online training materials, blogs alongside sharing this with the wider team.
  • Flexible, able to adapt quickly to changes.
  • Able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Provide guidance and support the users in their efforts to become proficient in the use of the applications.
Microsoft certification in relevant data engineering areas preferably but not mandatory.
