Learning Support Assistant – Macclesfield – September 2025 Start (Temporary with potential to become permanent)
Your New Company
Hays Education is working in partnership with a unique independent special school located in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The school provides a bespoke educational experience for children aged 6 to 16 with a range of complex needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, Sensory Processing Difficulties (SPD), and anxiety-related conditions. Set within the peaceful grounds of a therapeutic children’s home, the school offers a nurturing and emotionally safe environment where pupils are supported through an attachment-informed curriculum. With a maximum capacity of 16 pupils and small class sizes, the school is able to deliver highly personalised learning experiences. Digital technology plays a key role in the curriculum, with tools such as iPads, green screens, and stop-motion animation used to enhance engagement and creativity. The school’s ethos centres on emotional literacy, therapeutic support, and helping pupils develop self-regulation and social skills alongside academic progress. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, inclusive, and inspiring setting where every child is empowered to thrive. This is a temporary role initially, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
Your New Job
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with additional needs both in and out of the classroom. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to deliver tailored interventions, promote positive behaviour, and help pupils access the curriculum in a way that suits their individual learning styles. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils with ASD, SEMH, and anxiety in a 1:1 or small group setting
- Assisting with the delivery of creative and therapeutic learning activities
- Encouraging emotional regulation and social development
- Helping pupils engage with digital learning tools and cross-curricular projects
- Contributing to a safe, respectful, and inclusive school culture
