Public Health Consultant, Interim, Coventry, £600-£800 per day

Hays are delighted to be partnering with Coventry City Council in the recruitment of an interim Public Health Consultant to lead their strategic agenda on Children’s Public Health and Life Chances while they cover a period of permanent recruitment. This is a pivotal role focused on reducing health inequalities and improving outcomes for children and young people across Coventry. The successful candidate will provide expert leadership across the health and care system, working collaboratively with internal teams, NHS partners, education, and community stakeholders to shape and deliver innovative, evidence-based public health strategies.

This role is paying up to between £600-£800 per day, and will be office based in Coventry once a week.

The key responsibilities of this role are:
  • Lead the strategic development and delivery of children’s public health and life chances initiatives.
  • Oversee commissioning and performance of key services, including Health Visiting, School Nursing, and Substance Misuse Services for young people.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across the health, education, and social care sectors.
  • Champion public health advocacy and ensure integration of services to maximise impact.
  • Supervise and support public health trainees and contribute to workforce development.
  • Represent Coventry at regional and national levels, promoting best practice and innovation.
The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Inclusion in the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) or MFPH.
  • Up-to-date CPD in line with Faculty of Public Health or equivalent standards.
  • Proven leadership in public health, particularly in children’s services.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in commissioning, programme management, and partnership working.
  • Ability to influence across complex systems and political environments.
