Hays Recruitment are happy to announce that we are assisting an extremely supportive and welcoming two-form entry mainstream primary school in Runcorn that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to appoint a reliable and motivated teaching assistant to join the reception class on a full-time temporary basis from September. Due to continued funding, this school requires a teaching assistant to support pupils within the reception class on a 1:1 basis that have individual EHCPs due to a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal.
Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting the reception class. You will be supporting 2 pupils on a 1:1 basis that have a dual diagnosis of ASD and non-verbal. You will act as their main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate and walking them back to their grown-ups at the end of the school take. You will take a pupil-centred approach to their learning as to ensure that their individual attainment and special educational needs are met, which will intern assist in the further development of their EHCP. You will offer basic speech and language interventions (including PECs and Makaton), sensory development and integrate them into the main reception class throughout the school day. As your pupils are on EHCP's you will regularly liaise with the SENDCo on their progress and give accurate feedback as required.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, recent referenceable experience supporting children/young people with special educational needs within a classroom or social care environment, and:
- Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
- Have experience supporting ASD and/or non-verbal
- Have experience using PECs and/or Makaton
