Are you a confident and experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs? Are you ready to step up and lead the class when required? Hays Education is working on behalf of a respected Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South Manchester to recruit a strong, proactive Teaching Assistant for a 12-month maternity cover role, starting ASAP or from September 2025. This job requires a resilient, adaptable, and confident TA who can take initiative and maintain a calm, structured environment.
About the School
This specialist PRU supports primary-aged pupils (5–11) who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. The school provides a trauma-informed, therapeutic learning environment with a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, behaviour support, and re-engagement with learning. Key features include:

Your New Role
As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver targeted interventions
- Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques
- Build strong, consistent relationships with pupils to support emotional and academic development
- Confidently lead the class when the teacher is occupied or in meetings, ensuring continuity of learning and behaviour expectations
What You'll Need to Succeed
- A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience in a PRU, SEMH school, or specialist SEN setting
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to lead a class when needed
- A calm, patient, and proactive approach
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children
