Your New Company
Hays Education is working in partnership with a forward-thinking secondary school in Tameside that is launching a brand-new Special Educational Needs (SEN) unit in September 2025. This exciting development will provide specialist support for students with a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school is committed to inclusive education and creating a nurturing environment where every student can thrive.
Your New Job
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students within the new SEN unit. You will work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals to deliver tailored support to pupils with a variety of learning and communication needs. Your responsibilities will include providing 1:1 and small group support, assisting with classroom activities, promoting positive behaviour, and helping students to access the curriculum in a way that suits their individual learning styles. This is a full-time, term-time-only role starting in September, with the potential for long-term or permanent opportunities.
What You'll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you should have experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, ideally within a school or educational setting. A strong understanding of autism, communication strategies such as PECS or Makaton, and a patient, empathetic approach are essential. You must be a team player, confident in building positive relationships with students and staff, and committed to supporting inclusive education. A relevant qualification in supporting teaching and learning or SEN is desirable but not essential.
What You'll Get in Return
You will join a supportive and welcoming school community at an exciting time of growth and development. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. You will benefit from ongoing training and professional development, a collaborative working environment, and the chance to be part of a passionate and dedicated team. Competitive rates of pay are offered, along with the potential for a long-term or permanent position.
