Head of Local Governance

Join a fantastic and collaborative growing organisation within education committed to supporting education for children and young people across England.
This role will lead and support effective governance across their network of educational bodies. This is a key strategic role, working closely with Trustees, the Executive Team, Company Secretary, and Regional Directors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure local governing bodies are effectively led, well-informed, and aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.
  • Offer expert guidance to Chairs and key stakeholders on governance best practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of governors to build robust local governance capacity.
  • Design and deliver high-quality training, resources, and networking opportunities to strengthen governance across all schools.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of governance structures and drive improvement through regular reviews, feedback, and targeted support.
  • Serve as a vital link between local governance and central leadership, promoting clear communication and strategic alignment.

About You
  • Extensive experience in educational governance within academy trusts / independent school environments.
  • In-depth understanding of governance frameworks and compliance, with a clear grasp of the strategic role of Local Governing Bodies.
  • Skilled at advising senior leaders and volunteers, demonstrating strong communication abilities and a talent for building effective relationships.
  • Highly organised and proactive, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
  • Committed to the development of others, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
