Newly Created Role!! Head of Finance for a Family-Owned Construction Company

Your new company

This is a newly created role in a family-owned construction company. They are well renowned for their services, being established for over 100 years! The company focusses on new build and refurbishment projects across London; always adhering to the highest standards, anticipating change to future-proof our work, putting our clients at the heart of everything they do.

Your new role

The Head of Finance will report directly to the Board and play a hands-on role in managing all financial and management reporting. This role supports strategic growth, drives business initiatives, and oversees a small finance team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
  • Prepare management and statutory accounts
  • Monitor financial performance vs. budget and provide actionable insights to support commercial decisions
  • Manage cash flow, balance sheet reconciliations and quarterly VAT returns
  • Oversee monthly payroll and contract valuations
  • Raise sales invoices and maintain accurate accruals/prepayments
  • Liaise with auditors and implement recommendations
  • Support business growth through ad hoc projects and strategic planning
  • Collaborate with senior management across departments

What you'll need to succeed

The ideal candidate is a methodical, analytical, and self-motivated finance leader with a structured approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure. They will be confident working to deadlines and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Qualifications & Attributes:
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Proven finance leadership experience within the construction industry
  • Commercially minded with strong budgeting and forecasting skills
  • Positive, proactive, and solution-focused, with a collaborative mindset
  • Strong communicator with the ability to lead, influence, and inspire
  • Experienced in driving change and supporting business transformation
  • Skilled in producing financial insights that add value to strategic planning
Technical Skills & Requirements:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong team player with a hands-on approach
