HAYS are delighted to be partnering with Birmingham City Council to recruit for an interim Project Manager for the Equal Pay Programme with schools. Birmingham City Council is dedicated to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within their workforce and services, and are seeking a motivated and experienced Project Manager to lead the Equal Pay Programme for schools. This role is integral to the Job Evaluation (JE) and Pay & Grading (P&G) Programme, ensuring fair and equitable pay structures across all non-teaching roles in schools where BCC is the employer.

This role is paying up to £500 per day, and hybrid working is available. This role will also require a Basic DBS check.

The key responsibilities of this role are:
  • Collaborate with the EP Schools Lead, BCC Education, and School Leaders to develop, plan, and implement the Schools Equal Pay Programme.
  • Coordinate the comprehensive review of Job Descriptions and Person Specifications across all non-teaching roles in scope.
  • Advocate for the JE, P&G Programme across BCC, including BCT, Schools, and Acivico.
  • Own the coordination and communication of the Schools JE Delivery Plan, ensuring key milestones are identified and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Work independently and with EPP colleagues to deliver key project milestones on time and within budget.
  • Develop a Council-wide Schools Jobs Directory with inclusive Job Description and Person Specification templates, implementing systems solutions within RoleMapper.
  • Track and monitor progress, escalating business risks where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with other parts of the council to identify cross-council dependencies regarding schools-related matters.
  • Ensure key processes are followed consistently and correctly within projects, in line with relevant policy.
  • Build relationships and form alliances with programme counterparts, communities of practice, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure smooth implementation and handover of project activity to business as usual at the appropriate point.
  • Act as the primary communications contact for the Schools workstream, developing a comprehensive Council-wide Schools Jobs Directory.
In order to be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Significant knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations regarding equality and diversity, the schools landscape, operations, and governance, and organisational business units.
  • Understanding of project management discipline and best practice.
  • Experience working with or in schools and/or school governance.
  • Experience in major change programmes in large, complex, and unionised organisations.
  • Ability to communicate challenges and influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong understanding of equal opportunities in employment and service delivery.
