Exciting Head of Governance opportunity for governance professional or lawyer seeking a pivotal appointment

Hays Legal is exclusively instructed with this exceptional Head of Corporate Governance role, a wide-ranging role, which is fundamental to the running of this multi-specialism charitable organisation.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the appointee will be responsible for managing two key divisions of the charity; the Corporate Governance and Corporate Support functions. Additionally, the role comes with the position of vice-chair of the Senior Management Team.

You will be dealing with the Board, have Company Secretarial responsibilities and ultimate responsibility for the Governance functions. Key to the role is to ensure that Board & Committee meetings run smoothly, manage the resultant actions and ensure completion. You will co-ordinate the continued development and implementation of the governance framework, the appropriate codes and legislation, risk management framework and the annual governance statement, as well as ensuring effective information governance.

Key responsibilities:
  • Stakeholder Engagement – with Trustees, the Executive team & staff
  • Employee Relations – with responsibility for two teams
  • Managing Actions – arising from Board & Committee meetings so that actions are properly communicated, carried out and closed down
  • Performance Management – ensuring team service levels are met & teams operate effectively
  • Insights – maintaining & updating governance databases, preparing key documents & presentations for the Board & Committees, developing and presenting governance & risk reports
  • Organisational development – co-ordinating the continued development & implementation of the governance framework and relevant codes & legislation, and supporting the organisation’s growth and development

You will need:
  • Management experience
  • An effective track record in organisation and systems
  • Excellent communication skills & the ability to deal with all levels of stakeholders

This is a fabulous opportunity for a governance professional (part or fully qualified), or lawyer looking to assume a multi-faceted, senior governance role. You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build a strong rapport with stakeholders throughout the organisation, the ability to think logically, work to deadlines and be very organised in your approach. A desire to make a real difference is key. Only those with UK experience will be considered. Applications must live within a daily commuting distance of Leeds. Hybrid working.
