A client of ours, a university based in London that specialises in Economics, is looking for a operations manager to join there already established estates team on a permanent basis. You will be working in the residental and catering services divisions (RCSD) in there brand new Residence for students which has just opened. Working alongside other major universities in London you will be apart of a core group of outstanding universities providing a quality service to students studying.

Your new role
The Residential and Catering Services Division (RCSD) is responsible f or the School’s residences and catering services. The residences comprise nine halls - six directly managed halls and three which are managed by private providers under nominations agreements. The school also has an allocation of circa 350 bed spaces via the University of London. Together these halls account for4,200 student bed spaces. Residential Services aim to offer every first -year student a place in halls.
To reach this target we estimate the school will need circa 6,000 bed spaces. Outside of student term contracts, 5 halls operate as Bed and Breakfast hotels including a substantial summer school operation. The division employs over 200 staff and has a turnover of £31 million. Residential Services currently operates partly through the parent, a company limited by guarantee for student business, and partly through a wholly owned subsidiary, LSE Lets Ltd, for non-student business.
This Operations Manager postholder will have responsibility new buildings residence.
The new residence is our newest hall of residence with a total of 676 student bedspaces and will open in Summer 2025. The postholder will work closely with a third-party facilities provider, who will oversee the hall’s facilities management. Building a strong working relationship with the third-party facilities management team will be essential to ensuring the highest level of service for students.
As the key front-line officer for the residence, the Operations Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day running of reception services including the line management of staff. The Operations Manager will work within a team and deputise for other Operations Managers in the division when needed. The Operations team consists of the f ront of house teams in each of the halls, the Residential Services Office and the Residences Systems Team.
What you'll need to succeed
- The successful candidate will be expected to be onsite every day, and remote working is not something that can be regularly facilitated in this role.
- Working hours are 9am-5pm, Mon-Fri, although some weekend work will be required during peak times, for example on check-in and check-out weekends.
- We are looking for a candidate with a track record as a Front of House/Operations Manager in a student hall of residence or hotel.
- Proven experience of managing a team in a customer facing environment
- Experience of using Property Management System
- Ability to adhere and implement Health and Safety procedures and legislation (e.g. PEEPs, Fire Safety, First Aid, Major Incident Response Plan) in a residential setting.
