School Caretaker

School Caretaker | Brighton | Caretaker | £20,000 - £25,000 | Full–Time Permanent

In the heart of Brighton, this thriving and welcoming school is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for its students. They are currently looking for a reliable, hard-working and dedicated School Caretaker to join their team. As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of school facilities, ensuring they are in excellent condition for both students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

- Ensure the school premises are clean, safe, and well-maintained always.
- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs on school buildings, equipment, and facilities.
- Oversee the security of the premises, including locking and unlocking of the school at the start and end of each day.
- Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire safety equipment and emergency exits.
- Assist with setting up classrooms, halls, and outdoor areas for events and activities.
- Manage waste disposal and ensure the school grounds are litter-free.
- Assist with the delivery and collection of goods and supplies to the school.
- Respond promptly to any urgent maintenance issues or repairs that arise.
- Work closely with the school leadership team to ensure the smooth operation of the school site.
- Provide support for outdoor grounds maintenance, including gardening and landscaping.
- Assist with other duties as required, ensuring the school environment remains safe and welcoming.

Key Requirements

- Previous experience in a caretaking or facilities maintenance role in an educational environment.
- A practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and building maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanour.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- A proactive attitude with a focus on delivering excellent service to the school community.
- Flexibility to work outside regular hours when required (e.g. during school events or for emergency repairs).
