Your new role
This position is for an experienced teaching assistant who has worked with additional needs in a previous role. You will be supporting a KS1 student on a 1:1 basis five mornings a week. You will be instrumental in integrating the young person into the classroom environment, facilitating and encouraging their participation at a level suitable to their abilities. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
- Supporting the child within a classroom environment
- Supervising at playtimes and within the classroom
- Identifying triggers for the student in order to mitigate difficult situations
- Liaise with the class teacher and other professionals regarding the childs care
- Feedback to parents/carers on the childs progress
- Record and monitor achievements
- Build a strong trusting relationship with the pupil
- Monitor and support the child’s safety, ensuring they do not access unsafe areas or items.
- Help the child with self-care tasks
- Implement strategies to manage the child’s impulsive behaviours and sensory needs.
- Work closely with the school’s SENCO and other staff to create a supportive learning environment.
What you'll need to succeed
This is an exciting opportunity to truly make a difference to a young persons life. As this child has specific needs, we require a candidate who;
- Has experience working with young people diagnosed as having SEN
- Displays a calm and rational nature
- Has an understanding of ASD and similar conditions
- Can commit to half day sessions on a long term basis
- Has a DBS on the update service or is willing to apply for one
- Demonstrates a high level of passion for education and supporting young people
