We are working on an exciting & interesting role for our client, who are an innovative and fast-growing company that designs, manufactures, and supplies specialist roofing systems. They supply Tier 1 construction companies, roofing contractors, and the solar industry with unique, high-performance products that solve complex issues like waterproofing riser penetrations and structural fixings.
Your new role
We are looking for a technically skilled and highly organised individual to join the Research and Development team.
This full-time, on-premises role is ideal for someone with a strong engineering background and a passion for product development.
You will lead and support projects through the entire R&D lifecycle—from concept to launch—ensuring alignment with the company's strategic goals and manufacturing capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with stakeholders to define product specifications and strategy
- Conducting market and technical research to identify new opportunities
- Leading cross-functional teams through the R&D process
- Managing project timelines, budgets, and resources
- Ensuring product compatibility with manufacturing processes
- Supporting quality assurance and product reliability efforts
What you'll need to succeed
We’re looking for someone with a solid foundation in engineering and a proven track record in R&D within the construction product sector.
The ideal candidate will come from a larger organisation and have experience of developing complex products for the built environment.

To be considered, you will have the following experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in R&D for a construction product within a large organisation
- Strong understanding of the built environment and building envelope
- Engineering qualifications and experience with sheet metals
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- A detail-oriented mindset and a passion for research
- Full UK work authorisation (no sponsorship required)
- Strong communication skills and alignment with Nicholson’s values
- GCSE/A-Level passes in English and Mathematics
Ideal backgrounds may include:
- Façade systems manufacturing
- Roof waterproofing product manufacturing (not contracting)
- Manufacturers of complex construction-related products such as balconies, smoke shafts, or ventilation housings
