Southampton is undergoing an amazing transformation. Since the launch of our City Centre Master Plan in 2012, we have secured over £1.9 billion of new investment into the city, unemployment has been cut to just 1.5%, and over 4,000 new homes have been built or have planning consent. In just five years we have cemented our position as the economic powerhouse of the south coast, created new training and job opportunities for over 10,000 residents and will continue this programme of growth, investment and improvement.

However, Southampton is a city of two halves. Despite our economic success, there are areas of deprivation that have not yet felt the benefit of this growth. As a result, we are experiencing an increasing demand for some of our services. To meet these demands with reducing budgets, we are transforming into a lean, outcomes-focused organisation. Southampton is fundamentally changing, and so is Southampton City Council.

In a changing economic, social and political environment and at a time where commercialisation and technology are both disrupting the status quo and opening up new opportunities to secure growth, we are seeking an outstanding individual to become our next Chief Executive. You will lead the organisation and continue the implementation of plans to secure our future as a modern, sustainable organisation that delivers improved outcomes for local people. This is a really exciting time to join us as we continue to drive forward our transformation and become increasingly commercially-focused for on-going sustainable growth and the generation of further revenue streams.

The successful candidate will be an inspiring leader who can demonstrate a passion for making a difference, an appetite to address challenges and an ability to empower and motivate a dedicated and diverse leadership team and wider workforce. You will have a track record of successfully delivering outcomes and building a fair, inclusive and results-focused culture. Experience of developing and coaching senior teams for success in a large and complex organisation is essential as are sound political and financial acumen and the management of transformational change. You will have exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at local, sub regional and national levels across the public and private sector and will be a strong, energetic leader who brings impact and credibility, and the ability to motivate and inspire.
