Thank you for taking the time to visit our website, where you can find out more about Southampton City Council and this key appointment. I hope that you find the information provided useful in making your application.

Southampton is undergoing an amazing transformation. Since the launch of our City Centre Master Plan in 2012, we have secured over £1.9 billion of new investment into the city, unemployment has been cut to just 1.5%, and over 4,000 new homes have been built or have planning consent. In just five years we have cemented our position as the economic powerhouse of the south coast, created new training and job opportunities for over 10,000 residents and will continue this programme of growth, investment and improvement.

However, Southampton is a city of two halves. Despite our economic success, there are areas of deprivation that have not yet felt the benefit of this growth. As a result, we are experiencing an increasing demand for some of our services. To meet these demands with reducing budgets, we are transforming into a lean, outcomes-focused organisation. Southampton is fundamentally changing, and so is Southampton City Council.

If you’re the sort of person who sees transformation and continuous improvement as an opportunity and you have strong leadership skills and sound financial acumen, then Southampton City Council could be the place for you. I look forward to working closely with the successful applicant to deliver the Council’s targets, priorities and ambitions for our community. I wish you the very best of luck with your application.

Cllr Simon Letts
Leader of the Council
