Who are ECITB

Hays Senior Finance is excited to be working in partnership with the ECITB which is the statutory skills body for the engineering construction industry in Great Britain. It works closely with employers and the Government to attract develop and qualify engineering construction personnel in a wide range of craft, technical and professional skills and disciplines.

The ECITB also has international operations and supports clients in 18 countries, supporting the development of engineering and project delivery skills across the energy, processing and construction sectors.

Employer-led, the ECITB provides businesses with the support to train the engineers of today and tomorrow to the highest standards, via a regionally based network of 172 approved training providers (ATPs).

The ECITB provides an effective platform for collaboration amongst employers in the engineering construction industry:

  • Employers benefit from the training and the grants they receive via the training levy.
  • Industry benefits by sustaining the skills and performance of the workforce.
  • Learners benefit from acquiring transferable skills, knowledge and qualifications.
  • Training providers benefit from accreditation, status, standards and quality assurance.

Over the next five years, the ECITB will secure more than 300,000 training opportunities for new entrants and existing members of the workforce across the sectors that make up engineering construction: oil and gas, power generation, nuclear energy, renewable energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, food and drink, steel, steel construction, cement and bricks, glass and paper manufacturing, and other commodities that are part of our everyday lives, such as plastics, medicines, bottled and canned drinks, cosmetics and many more household products.

What they do

Managing a national skills training fund, the ECITB invests £30m each year in providing the advice, information and support that engineering construction employers need to attract, develop and qualify the people required for a sustainable and competitive workforce. The ECITB also sets industry standards for competence and health & safety, and works with a wide range of stakeholders to build a sustainable and competitive workforce for the future.

The ECITB is accredited as an Awarding Organisation by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator and the Scottish Qualifications Authority for the delivery of vocational qualifications. In addition to commissioning a national network of training providers to deliver training for individuals and employers in the UK and abroad we also provide a range of other services:

  • Provide careers information and advice for employees.
  • Attract new entrants to the industry.
  • Quality assures training and qualifications.
  • Represent the industry’s skills needs to Government.
  • Define and maintain the industry’s occupational standards.
