Your new role

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll lead mechanical engineering design and delivery on major water sector projects. From treatment works to pumping stations and network upgrades, you’ll ensure technical excellence and compliance across the full project lifecycle – from concept design through to construction support. You’ll set quality standards, manage budgets and timelines, and collaborate with mechanical specialists and project stakeholders across the UK and internationally to deliver robust, efficient solutions that meet the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical design work in accordance with UK and water industry standards.
  • Prepare briefs, scopes of work, and contribute to bid proposals.
  • Manage budgets and schedules to achieve project milestones.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance standards in all deliverables.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in mechanical design leadership.
  • Ideally chartered or working towards chartership.
  • Extensive knowledge of water sector mechanical systems, including pumps, blowers, screens, and chemical dosing plant.
  • In-depth understanding of UK water industry standards and working practices.
  • Strong understanding of legislation such as CDM and ATEX.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design delivery within complex project environments.
