Water Activities Instructor

Position Overview
As a Water Activities Instructor, assisting and supporting the Principal and Chief Instructor, you are responsible for the successful delivery of customer-focused service to Military Personnel, incorporating on HMS Excellent, Portsmouth. Delivering a range of water sports course and experiences, i.e., sailing, powerboat, dinghy, paddle sports, and kayaking courses.

The successful candidate will be well-organised, precise, confident with credible communication skills, readily able and willing to contribute at all levels. In addition, the individual will be versatile, intuitive, and professional with good judgement and absolute integrity. Proactive and persuasive when required and responsive to changing needs of the business and the demands of the customer, while remaining calm under pressure and self-motivated, the incumbent will be reliable and well presented, giving a positive image of the company values. In addition, the following are needed:


  • Holds RYA Dinghy or Senior Instructor.
  • Holds relevant First Aid Qualification as accepted by RYA and BC.
  • Proven track record of delivering quality administration and service with customer-facing experience.
  • Persuasive and credible verbal and written communicator with the ability to develop close working relationships.
  • Proactive approach and the ability to embrace and lead to change.
  • Ability to manage short notice changes to requirements and deadline.
  • Management level knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practice (IOSH - Managing Safely)
  • Good standard of education, preferably to NVQ Level 5 or equivalent.
  • Holds at least RYA Powerboat Instructor,
  • Holds British Canoeing Coach qualifications or Equivalent ASI / BSUPA. (Desired)
  • Holds VHF Operator Certificate (Desired)
