  • Job Type: Full-time, long-term temporary assignment – running until Easter 2025.
  • Salary: £90 - £100 per day.
  • Start Date: 6th January 2025.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Student Support Worker to join an excellent specialist secondary provision in South Leicestershire. The successful candidate will provide support to students aged 11 to 19 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The role involves working closely with students, teachers, and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and Mentorship:
    Provide one-on-one and group support to students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour, fostering a positive and trusting relationship.
  • Behaviour Management:
    Implement and monitor behaviour management plans, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
  • Emotional Support:
    Offer emotional support and guidance to students, helping them develop coping strategies and resilience.
  • Academic Assistance:
    Assist students with their academic work, ensuring they stay engaged and motivated in their studies.
  • Collaboration:
    Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised support plans.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    Keep detailed records of student progress and behaviour, and report any concerns to the appropriate staff members.
  • Workshops and Activities:
    Organise and facilitate workshops and activities that promote social skills, emotional well-being, and positive behaviour.
  • Safeguarding:
    Ensure the safety and well-being of all students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    A relevant qualification in education, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills. The ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations effectively.
  • Knowledge:
    Understanding of SEMH issues, behaviour management strategies, and safeguarding practices.
