Technician 2 | HAYS | Peterborough

Join a leading independent technology and services provider as a Technician 2.

We are looking to recruit Senior Cabling / Smart Hands Engineer who will work within both Data Centre and Corporate environments to deliver advanced structured cabling, hardware installation, and onsite technical support.

  • Location: Peterborough
  • Daily Rate: A per hour rate, in-scope IR35, of £14.90/hr PAYE) OR £19.34/hr (via a Hays approved umbrella company)
  • Contract Duration: 23-Mar-26 till 30-Sep-26
  • Working Hours : Mon - Fri 07:00 to 19:00

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within Data Centre and Corporate environments to deliver cabling and Smart Hands support.
  • Install, terminate, and test fibre optic cables.
  • Use Fluke testing equipment for certification and fault diagnostics.
  • Install cable pathways including basket trays, trunking, and fibre runners.
  • Install power and data connection cables within server and networking racks.
  • Perform rack and stack of active network hardware (switches, routers, servers).
  • Follow patching schedules and cut sheets accurately.
  • Provide hands-on support to remote network and systems administrators.
  • Apply basic IP addressing under direction.
  • Install and configure UPS systems (desirable).

Key Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years ’ hands-on experience in the structured cabling industry.
  • Strong understanding of Structured Cabling Solutions.
  • Proven experience working in Data Centre and Corporate environments.
  • Proficient in terminating and testing fibre optic cabling.
  • Experienced with Fluke test equipment and fault finding.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Night / shift work / weekend work may be required on a project-by-project basis.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the UK and internationally for project work.
