Interim IT Technician for a School

Your new company

A well-established and supportive high school in Preston is seeking an Interim IT Technician to provide short-term support to the IT department. The school has a strong focus on learning, development, and reliable ICT services to support both staff and students.

Your new role

The school is looking for an Interim IT Technician to support the IT Manager and existing IT Technician, starting ASAP for an initial period of up to one month (with potential flexibility depending on needs).
Working hours are 08:30 – 16:30, though flexibility can be offered where required.
With guidance from the Network Manager, you will contribute to the delivery of an effective ICT support service across the school, ensuring continuity of service and responding promptly to day-to-day technical needs.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring dedicated ICT areas are ready for use each day and left in good working order
  • Regularly checking hardware, repairing minor faults and escalating major issues to the Network Manager
  • Providing first-line user support and responding to helpdesk queries
  • Supporting data collection, processing, and storage in line with school reporting requirements
  • Setting up user accounts following established procedures
  • Setting up and supporting audiovisual equipment for lessons, assemblies, and events
  • Providing ICT support for printing, video editing, and use of school systems
  • Monitoring stock levels of print toners and supplying order lists to the Network Manager
Please note: Duties may be varied by the Headteacher or Network Manager to reflect changing needs, in line with the role.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience working as an IT Technician in an education environment

  • Strong knowledge of Windows, 365, Azure, Active Directory and general school ICT infrastructure

  • Experience providing user and helpdesk support

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider IT team

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
