A special school in Walsall is looking for a committed and experienced teacher to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis. The role is set to last until at least July, with the potential to extend into the new academic year. The school is keen to offer a permanent contract to the right candidate, making this a fantastic opportunity to establish a long-term career within a supportive and rewarding environment.
About the Role:As an SEN Teacher, you will be working with a group of Key Stage 3 students who are working academically at a much lower age range. You will have the support of at least two Teaching Assistants (TAs) in the classroom, with no more than 8 students at any one time. This small class size ensures a highly focused and tailored approach to teaching, allowing you to make a significant impact on the students' progress and development. Your role will be to plan, deliver, and assess lessons that meet the unique needs of each student, while creating a nurturing, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the needs of Key Stage 3 students working at a lower academic age range.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and their families.
- Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other members of the support staff to provide a holistic approach to student development.
- Support students' social and emotional well-being, promoting inclusion and respect within the classroom.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages the best outcomes for all students.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience in primary or secondary education.
- Previous experience working with students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) or in a special educational needs setting.
- A passion for teaching and an understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEN.
- Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to adapt to the needs of each child.
- A collaborative approach to working with staff, students, and families.
Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of alternative teaching strategies for students with MLD.
- Experience working in a special school or similar educational setting.
- Ability to support students' personal and emotional development alongside academic progress.
