Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a single-form entry primary school on the outskirts of Chester as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated teaching assistant to support the reception class on a full-time long-term basis (32.5 hours per week).


Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be based within the reception class, supporting the class teacher in the smooth delivery of inclusive lessons. You will offer 1:1 and group support to your new pupils, delivering guided reading, guided writing, and phonics sessions using the RWI scheme. To aid in the social and emotional development of your pupils, you will complete observations and learn through play, integrating them into new pupil groups and encouraging social skills. A number of pupils within this class do have SEN, with some showing signs and requiring further assessment process, with typical needs consisting of ASD and speech and language requirements. When supporting your SEN pupils, you will offer basic speech and language interventions, use Makaton, PECs, and aid in their fine motor skills. As your pupils progress, you will deliver interventions in numeracy and literacy with transitions being a focus towards the later stage of the academic year.


What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, a Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent qualification, and:

  • Referenceable experience within an reception or early years class
  • Experience supporting SEN (ASD and speech and language requirements is preferred)
  • Experience using the RWI phonics scheme
