Teacher of English | Secondary School Job | East London | HAYS Education

Hays Education are working in partnership with a high-performing secondary school in East London to recruit an ambitious and dedicated Teacher of English for a September 2026 start.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful English department with a strong commitment to academic excellence and a passion for fostering a love of reading, writing and literature. The school is seeking a talented practitioner who can inspire students to achieve their full potential while contributing to the continued success of the department.

The successful candidate will teach English Language and English Literature across KS3 and KS4, with opportunities to teach A-Level English for suitably experienced applicants.

Your new role

  • Teach English Language and Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Deliver engaging and challenging lessons that promote excellent progress
  • Plan, prepare and assess work in line with departmental schemes of learning
  • Foster a love of reading and develop students' literacy skills
  • Prepare students for GCSE examinations and assessment objectives
  • Monitor student progress and provide targeted support where required
  • Contribute to enrichment activities, literacy initiatives and wider school events

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching English within a UK secondary school setting
  • Strong knowledge of English Language and Literature curricula
  • Ability to inspire and engage students of all abilities
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • Commitment to achieving outstanding outcomes for young people
  • Dedication to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
