2 posts in Neighbourhoods & Regeneration, and Law & Governance

Your new organisation
This is a great time to join the finance team at London Borough of Brent. You will work with an outstanding leadership team and will join a highly committed and innovative team who are dedicated to building on their performance. Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make-up.

The role
There are 2 positions on offer in this team, both of which are business partnering roles, managing substantial budgets and providing support to senior managers.
The 2 posts:
* Public Realm and Law & Governance - Supporting the budget holders with a focus on the public realm – this includes parking, highways and waste management. Given that many of the services are contracted out, there will be a particular focus on contract management and the associated finance and reporting. You will also support the Law & Governance Directorate, which includes Legal, HR & Democratic Services.

*Inclusive Regeneration & Employment, and Strategic Housing - Supporting teams in regeneration, which includes the planning function. Management of the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)/S106 will be a key part of the role. Regeneration also includes Building Control and Employment & Enterprise services. Finance support will also be provided to Strategic Housing, which includes tenant engagement and caretaking services.
Systems: Oracle and excel.

What you need to succeed
You will be a qualified accountant and will ideally have worked in local government finance – experience of regeneration and working in the public realm would be a definite benefit. If you have not worked in the specialism directly, you must be capable of communicating that you have a very clear understanding of what the area is responsible for and the associated challenges. You should be comfortable explaining complex information to non-financial managers as well as work well with external stakeholders.

What you'll get in return
Flexible working options are available. Hybrid working

Benefits include;

  • Competitive salary
  • The opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous holiday entitlements starting from 27 days' holiday a year
  • A full range of family friendly policies, including generous maternity and paternity entitlements and childcare schemes
  • Flexible working patterns, including hybrid working
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Good travel links in and out of Wembley and a range of cost-saving travel schemes
  • Access to My Brent Rewards, our dedicated website for staff with big brand discounts and local offers
  • Work at the outstanding state-of-the-art Brent Civic Centre
