Hays Education is recruiting on behalf of a highly respected specialist SEN school in Stretford, Trafford, which supports children and young people aged 5–16 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The school caters to pupils with autism spectrum condition (ASC), moderate learning difficulties (MLD), and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This inclusive and nurturing school provides a structured, therapeutic learning environment with small class sizes, personalised learning plans, and a strong focus on emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively with therapists, families, and external agencies to deliver holistic support that enables every pupil to thrive.
Your New Job
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join the team from September 2025. This is a full-time, temporary position with the potential to become permanent, depending on performance and school fit. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in SEN schools, autism support, or alternative provisions. As a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Assist with classroom learning, communication, and sensory needs
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management
- Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
- Foster a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment
- Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
What You'll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this SEN Teaching Assistant role, you will need:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, ASC, or SEMH
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to behaviour and learning
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners
- An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
