Head of Modern Foreign Languages (French & Spanish) – Secondary School Job - North London – September Start

Your new company

Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established and ambitious secondary school in North London to recruit an experienced Head of MFL. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a committed Languages department within a school that values academic excellence, inclusivity, and high-quality teaching and learning.

Your new role

As Head of MFL, you will lead the delivery of French and Spanish across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to oversee and develop Key Stage 5 provision. You will be responsible for the strategic direction of the department, curriculum planning, and driving improvements in student attainment and engagement in languages.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and managing the MFL department, including staff development and performance
  • Planning and delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum in French and Spanish
  • Monitoring student progress and implementing effective intervention strategies
  • Promoting a strong language-learning culture across the school
  • Contributing to whole-school improvement priorities and initiatives


What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Proven experience teaching French and/or Spanish at secondary level (KS3–KS4 essential; KS5 desirable)
  • Previous leadership experience or readiness to step into a leadership role
  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for languages
  • Ability to inspire both students and staff, driving high standards of achievement
