Hays are partnering with a public sector organisation committed to delivering exceptional legal services across a newly formed directorate. With a strong emphasis on corporate support, governance, and legal compliance, this organisation is undergoing strategic transformation.
Your new role
As the lead Corporate Solicitor within a collaborative Legal Services unit, you’ll report directly to a senior legal manager. You’ll be responsible for overseeing a professional legal team, ensuring the provision of effective and pragmatic legal advice across the organisation’s corporate operations. Your remit spans representation in court, internal governance, standards compliance, and the development of key legal frameworks and procedures.
Duties involve:
- Managing a diverse legal caseload including litigation, contracts, and governance matters
- Representing the authority in courts and tribunals across a broad range of hearings
- Offering proactive legal counsel to directors, service leads, and committees
- Drafting and negotiating contracts, SLAs, and overseeing conveyancing
- Supporting debt recovery initiatives and leading on legal compliance across constitutional documentation
- Deputising for senior legal managers when required and contributing to wider organisational strategy
- You’ll also engage in high-level liaison with Counsel, external solicitors, statutory agencies, and internal stakeholders to ensure risk-aware and legally sound decision-making.
What you'll need to succeed
- A solicitor entitled to practice in Northern Ireland of at least three year’s standing
- 3+ years’ experience of dealing with complex range of legal issues provided concise and clear advice and reports
- 3+ years’ in providing advice to Elected members or the Senior Management Team of an organisation
- A track record of 3+ years in providing legal advice which has mitigated risk
- Desirable – working knowledge of the Local Government Act (NI) 2014 (Call in, Notice of Motion, and Standing Orders)
- A Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
What you'll get in return
