Automation Lead

Your new role

The Automation Team supports different internal departments with automated solutions. Apart from making items available for online ordering, the main task is to automate the generation of production layouts for items with variable data produced with various methods, including rotary/offset, thermal and digital. The Automation Team Lead leads and develops a team of up to 16 Automation Formatters and/or Developers to assure timely and accurate item setups for ordering and production.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong people leadership and supervisory skills with some prior experience are preferable.
  • The ability to be highly organised while managing multiple projects to completion against tight deadlines.
  • Good team player.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under own initiative, take ownership and drive for solutions.
  • Able to provide coaching and provide training/guidance to others in the team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, an investigative mindset and a keenness to resolve and find the cause of problems.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication and documentation skills with strong
    Proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • High level of PC skills, which may include but not limited to: G Suite by Google, Word, Excel, Access, ERP (Oracle preferred), product/customer databases
  • 2+ years of graphic design experience using graphics software (Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, etc.), experience with Quadient Inspire Designer is an advantage.
  • Basic IT programming knowledge/experience would be beneficial.
  • System integration and production workflow understanding is an advantage.
  • Experience with thermal printers and configurations is a plus.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent would be beneficial.
  • At least 2+ years of experience in leading teams.


What you need to do

  • Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the team and their own tasks, such as: attendance/holiday schedule, team schedule, escalations and claims/expenses
  • Support and drive End to End (E2E) Variable Data strategy implementation.
  • Ensure Setup and Support metrics are within the agreed SLA.
  • Act as first point of escalation for the team members for technical issues and prioritisation requests.
  • Collaborate with other Automation and DSS (Data Solutions Specialist) Team Leads and identify and propose improvements for a better collaboration between the teams
    and leaders.
  • Provide guidance and support for new customer programs and initiatives, ensuring automation solutions are available on time.
  • Ensure process compliance and adherence of existing standards such as coding conventions, procedures, operational manuals and consistency of setups, etc.
  • Make recommendations on how to improve current procedures and processes.
  • Manage GPS performance reviews and identify opportunities for training, coaching and development.
  • Provide training directly or review wider development gaps with the manager.
  • Lead interviews for hiring new Automation members with or without the support of the manager.
  • Manage Equipment contracts / Service calls and supplies for the lab.
  • Act as an Automation Developer as needed.
