Site Engineer - Highways - Tier 1 Contractor - Freelance -Civils

Your new role

As Site Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of highway works, ensuring technical accuracy, quality, and compliance across all site activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting out works in line with design drawings and specified tolerances

  • Ensuring all health, safety, and environmental standards are upheld on site

  • Supporting the preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and task briefings

  • Interpreting and implementing Inspection and Test Plans, ensuring hold points are met

  • Providing technical support and resolving engineering queries

  • Assisting with permits, site documentation, and change management processes

  • Checking calibration and accuracy of survey equipment and control points

  • Communicating setting out and technical information clearly to site teams

  • Preparing sketches and supporting documentation for site use

  • Maintaining accurate site diaries and tracking project progress

  • Assisting with procurement of materials and coordination of subcontractors


What you'll need to succeed

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering projects

  • Experience working on highways or infrastructure schemes (desirable)

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Valid CSCS card

  • Full UK driving licence
