A growing multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong presence across the Midlands and London, the business is targeting significant expansion with a goal of reaching £60m turnover by 2030. Their Building Services division continues to grow, supported by long‑standing work within Blue Light, Education, and Higher Education, and a strategic interest in exploring opportunities within the MOD sector.With the M&E Design team set to double in size, the Birmingham office is a key location for growth. This creates an excellent opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to be part of a high-performing, progressive engineering team.
Your new role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer based in the Birmingham office, you will play a key role in delivering mechanical building services designs across a wide range of public and private sector projects.Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading mechanical design work from concept through to completion.
- Producing detailed mechanical calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coordinating with electrical, sustainability, architectural, and structural teams.
- Attending client, contractor, and design team meetings as a senior representative of the mechanical discipline.
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers to help strengthen the Birmingham team.
- Contributing to improvements in digital engineering, design standards, and technical delivery.
- Supporting the wider M&E leadership as the organisation grows its sector footprint.
This is a role that offers both responsibility and progression in a supportive, collaborative office environment.
What you'll need to succeed
Strong experience in mechanical building services design within the UK.- Ability to handle projects independently and lead design packages confidently.
- Good understanding of building regulations, design standards, and mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience with mechanical building services software and tools (e.g., IES, Hevacomp, Revit beneficial).
- Confident communication skills and experience representing your discipline in meetings.
- A willingness to support junior engineers and contribute to team development.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).
Desirable but not essential:
- Chartered or working towards Chartership.
- Experience in Blue Light, Education, Higher Education, Healthcare, or similar sectors.
- Exposure to secure or government projects (MOD) — not required.
