Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services

Your new role
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Glasgow. You will play a key role in delivering mechanical designs, technical support, and engineering solutions across a wide variety of projects, from full-scale refurbishments to highly technical, fast‑paced fit‑out environments. The role is predominantly office‑based with occasional site visits as required.
Main Responsibilities:- Producing detailed mechanical building services designs across HVAC, hot & cold water, public health, and associated systems.
- Carrying out load calculations, sizing, and equipment selection using industry‑standard software and internal design tools.
- Preparing technical drawings, schematics, and layout information in collaboration with in‑house design teams.
- Liaising with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure seamless delivery of design intent.
- Conducting site surveys to assess existing installations, identify constraints, and support accurate design development.
- Reviewing and interpreting project specifications, client briefs, and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting tender submissions with technical input and mechanical design information where required.
- Ensuring design compliance with building regulations, industry standards, and best‑practice guidelines.
- Providing engineering support throughout the project lifecycle, including addressing queries during installation stages.
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven experience in mechanical building services engineering within consultancy, contractor, or design & build environments.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, public health systems, and mechanical services design principles.
- Proficiency with design software (e.g., Hevacomp, IES, AutoCAD or similar).
- Excellent technical knowledge, with the ability to produce accurate calculations, specifications, and design documents.
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project team.
- Full right to work in the UK.
