Management Accountant, 12 months FTC - Home based with regular travel to North and West Cumbria business units

Your new company

Our client is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation with business units throughout North and West Cumbria. We are recruiting a talented Management Accountant to join their high-performing finance team in early January 2026 to support the organisation through a period of transformation. This role will be offered on a 12-month fixed term basis with potential permanent career opportunities.


Your new role

As Management Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in shaping financial management and reporting across the organisation. Working closely with the Associate Director of Finance, you’ll provide high-quality financial insight, strengthen controls, and champion digital innovation.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end management accounts
  • Leading balance sheet integrity and VAT compliance
  • Developing dashboards and financial analytics using tools like Power BI
  • Driving process improvements and automation within finance systems
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cost improvement initiatives
  • Acting as a trusted finance partner to senior leaders and practice teams
This is a hands-on role where you’ll combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to deliver real impact.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Qualified accountant (CCAB, CIMA) or equivalent with:
  • Strong experience in management accounts and statutory returns
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence with financial systems
  • Knowledge of payroll, pensions, VAT, and balance sheet management
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
  • Ability to build dashboards and insights using Power BI (or willingness to train)
  • Excellent communication skills to engage non-finance colleagues
  • A proactive, digitally-minded approach and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Familiarity of Xero is beneficial
