Senior Estimator - Permanent - Derby - Principal Contractor - Multi-Sector - First Principles - Civils

Your new company

You will be joining an industry-leading and established civil engineering contractor based in Derby. This multi-accredited principal contractor operates across the energy, environmental and construction sectors, delivering projects valued at up to £10m for an array of high-profile clients, including the likes of National Grid and the Environment Agency. They offer excellent opportunities for career progression and professional development, and due to continued success, they are actively seeking a Senior Estimator to join their pre-contract team.

Working hours: 8:45-5:15 with a 1-hour lunch

Your new role

As Senior Estimator, your responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing and submitting tenders from first principles, including obtaining quotations for subcontract work, materials and plant, and compiling programmes
  • Liaising with clients to ensure a full understanding of their requirements is obtained
  • Assisting in checking details of order and preparing documentation for, and attending, handover meetings with the contracts department if tenders are successful
  • Assisting junior staff when required to ensure competence in the duties required of them
  • Representing the company at all times and promoting good relations with clients (and their representatives), subcontractors and the general public
  • Conducting site visits to determine factors that could influence the cost of undertaking works.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful, you must have:
  • Previous experience estimating within heavy civils from first principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Full UK driving licence.
