Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering Contractor

A highly respected and long-established civil engineering contractor, operating across Scotland, is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its commercial leadership team. Based just outside Glasgow, the company delivers a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects including roads, drainage, earthworks, highways and utilities.
This is a strategic hire aimed at strengthening the company’s pre-construction capabilities and supporting its continued growth across both public and private sectors.
Role Overview
As Senior Estimator, you will lead the preparation and submission of competitive tenders for civil engineering projects ranging from £1m to £80m. You will work closely with directors, planners, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure accurate, timely, and commercially sound estimates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end estimating process for major civils tenders.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to produce detailed cost breakdowns.
- Develop pricing strategies and risk assessments in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Engage with supply chain partners to secure competitive quotations and build cost databases.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and liaise with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating systems and procedures.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in estimating within civil engineering or infrastructure. Would consider experienced construction candidates with suitable experience.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and public sector procurement.
- Proficient in estimating software (e.g. Causeway, Candy, or similar) and Excel.
- Excellent commercial acumen and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
