Respected Building Services Firm Seeking an Electrical Design Engineer on a permanent basis

Senior Electrical Design Engineer
My client is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their innovative and expanding team – this is a newly created role, not a replacement. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse range of projects across various sectors, including industrial, government, commercial, and leisure, within a collaborative and supportive environment. A unique element of this role is the opportunity to work on extensive heavy power / HV projects.

About the Company
  • Provides comprehensive building services solutions for a wide array of building projects.
  • Projects include critical infrastructure, marinas, educational buildings, sports facilities, offices, specialised manufacturing facilities, and bespoke residential properties.
  • Based in Hampshire, close to Southampton, the company is renowned for its technical excellence, professionalism, and quality.
  • Currently expanding their team to enhance their service offering.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare outline schemes, technical reports, sketch designs, and concept layouts.
  • Develop detailed specifications, schedules, drawings, and other contract documents in line with RIBA stages.
  • Participate in pre-qualification and selection of contractors, tendering procedures, and tender reviews.
  • Liaise with clients, professionals, contractors, suppliers, and other design team members.
  • Identify and meet client needs and expectations, while mentoring and inspiring junior colleagues and engineers.

Key Skills
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, with the ability to inspire, influence, and negotiate.
  • Ability to make decisions, act on own initiative, and operate in a proactive and professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and self-motivation, with a desire for career progression.
  • Experience in electrical engineering design, including power supplies, PV/EVC, lighting, and alarm systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Heavy Power / HV experience is desirable, but not essential
  • Proficiency with IET Regulations, Building Regulations, BREEAM, and principles of sustainable and low carbon design.
  • Competence in electrical engineering calculations (Amtech/Trimble, Relux, etc.).
  • Experience with REVIT is desirable.

What’s on Offer
  • Competitive salary, determined by experience / grade
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Free parking
  • Attractive employee benefits, including support through training and mentoring for career progression towards senior management.
  • Opportunity to work on exciting, innovative, and technically challenging projects.
  • A dynamic and friendly work environment with strong values of honesty, professionalism, and pride.

Flexibility in job requirements
My client recognises they may not be able to secure someone with the exact skillset and experience described above, they are therefore open to considering candidates who partially meet the criteria, but who are motivated to learn and develop within the role. This could be someone operating at a senior level already, but without certain required experience, someone with one year+ PQE or even an electrical apprentice who is looking to shift into a design role, in this instance, they will fund higher education.

This client is committed to helping their staff develop and provide opportunities and exposure to a unique range of projects including heavy power / high voltage, marine and heritage.
