Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Behavioural Support (Year 6) – Birkenhead Primary School
About the school
A primary school in Birkenhead is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support a Year 6 pupil on a 1:1 basis. The pupil presents with behavioural and SEMH needs, and the school is looking for someone with strong experience in this area who can build a positive and consistent relationship.
The Role
This is a full-time position starting the first week back in September, with the potential to become a longer-term role.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with behavioural and SEMH needs
Building a trusting relationship to help the pupil engage with learning
Supporting the class teacher in managing behaviour and maintaining a calm learning environment
Adapting resources and strategies to meet the pupil’s individual needs
Working closely with the SENCO and wider staff team to monitor progress
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Strong experience supporting children with behavioural challenges and SEMH
Confidence in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
Ability to build rapport quickly and work independently
Experience in a KS2 setting is desirable
