SEN Teaching Assistant Job in Northampton

Hays Education is working with a specialist school in Loughborough who are looking for a new Teaching Assistant for the Autumn Term. The school provides an excellent education for pupils with a range of needs including Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues (SEMH), Autism, ADHD and moderate learning difficulties. This is a temporary, term-time only position to start in September.

Your new school

You'll be working in a Specialist Primary School in Northampton for children aged 4-11 with a range of needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health), ASD, ADHD and moderate learning difficulties who have struggled to settle happily into a mainstream provision. The school is passionate about supporting its students to develop emotional regulation skills and improve their readiness to learn. They are currently a school of 5 classes with varying needs, with approximately 7 children per class. The school has a fantastic offering for its students including an outdoor play area, and group lunches with staff to improve interaction.

Your new role

In your new job as a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work with a team of like-minded practitioners to support pupils with a range of additional needs. You will support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups adapting your style to the needs of each child. You’ll benefit from on-going support from your Hays consultant, Hollie, who will be there for you throughout this placement and beyond.

What you need to succeed

To succeed in your new job, you’ll have a minimum of 1 years’ experience working with pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD and/or moderate learning difficulties, ideally in an educational setting. You’ll be able to adapt to the needs of students across age groups with previous experience supporting children with communication and/or sensory needs. Most importantly, you’ll be confident stepping into a new school and ready to quickly build relationships with colleagues, pupils and parents.
