SEN specialist Teaching Assistant job in London

Your new company

HAYS Education is working in partnership with a thriving and inclusive secondary school in London to recruit a passionate and experienced SEND Specialist Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities—ensuring they are fully included, engaged, and able to make strong progress both academically and socially.

Your new role

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for students with SEND, including those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in planning and delivering differentiated learning activities.
  • Help create supportive, structured learning environments that promote independence and confidence.
  • Implement personalised strategies and interventions based on EHCP targets.
  • Work effectively with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to ensure students receive consistent, high‑quality support.
  • Contribute to progress monitoring and provide feedback on student development.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND in a secondary school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour‑support strategies.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach when working with students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, Autism Awareness, SEMH) is desirable.
