Due to increased demand, we are recruiting confident and committed Cover Supervisors to work in a variety of secondary settings.

Your new role

As a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school, you will be responsible for supervising classes across Key Stages 3 and 4 in the absence of a teacher.
This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with experience working with teenagers who are looking to gain hands-on classroom experience.

Your duties will include:
  • Supervising full classes during teacher absences across a range of subjects
  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials and ensuring students stay on task
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school behaviour policies
  • Supporting students to complete work independently
  • Building positive relationships with students aged 11–16 (and up to 18 in some settings)
  • Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement and behaviour

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role within a secondary environment, you will:
  • Have experience working with young people aged 11–16 (school, coaching, tutoring, youth work, etc.)
  • Be confident leading a classroom and managing behaviour effectively
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and a calm, authoritative presence
  • Be flexible and adaptable to different subjects and school settings
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS check
A degree or school-based experience is highly advantageous, particularly for those considering a future in teaching.

What you'll get in return

  • Competitive daily rates of pay
  • Flexible work across a range of secondary schools in London
  • Opportunities for long-term placements and career progression
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated Hays Education consultant
  • Access to CPD opportunities to support your development into teaching
  • A valuable pathway into teacher training or permanent school roles
