Early Years Teaching Assistant Jobs in Special Schools
Nursery Nurses & EYFS Practitioners Welcome
Are you an Early Years Teaching Assistant or Nursery Nurse looking to move from a private day nursery into a school setting? We are recruiting Early Years Teaching Assistants for special schools that actively value EYFS experience and recognise the vital role Teaching Assistants play.
This is an ideal opportunity for Early Years professionals who want to continue working with children — but with school hours, term‑time work, and greater professional support.
Role: Early Years Teaching Assistant (Special School)
Special schools are increasingly seeking Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses with Early Years backgrounds, as your skills in child development, communication, routine and play‑based learning are essential for children with additional needs.
You will be supporting pupils with:
  • Autism (ASC)
  • Speech, Language & Communication Needs
  • Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs
  • Developmental delay or complex needs
No previous SEND or school experience is required — Early Years experience is highly valued and transferable.
⏰ Working Hours – Term Time Only
✅ Monday to Friday ✅ 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Full‑time positions available
  • Part‑time roles available (within 8:30am–3:30pm hours)
  • No shifts, no evenings and no late finishes
This makes the role ideal for those seeking a healthier work‑life balance compared to private nurseries.
✅ Why Move from a Nursery into a Special School?
Many Early Years Teaching Assistants and Nursery Nurses choose schools because they offer:
  • Consistent daily hours
  • Term‑time working
  • Strong support from teachers and therapists
  • Clear structure and routine
  • Time to build meaningful relationships with children
  • A calm, nurturing, child‑centred environment
Your EYFS knowledge, patience and nurturing approach are exactly what special schools need.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
You may be:
  • A Level 2 or Level 3 qualified Teaching Assistant or Nursery Nurse
  • Currently working in a private, voluntary or independent nursery
  • An EYFS practitioner considering school‑based roles for the first time
  • Passionate about inclusion, care, and early child development
No prior school experience needed
