1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception
North Leeds | Full Time | 5 Days per Week | September Start | Long-Term Supply Role
Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in North Leeds that is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team from September.
This is a full-time, long-term supply position supporting a new pupil who will be joining the school's Reception class. The child has significant additional learning needs and is currently pre-verbal, requiring consistent, nurturing and dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
The Role:
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping this child access the curriculum and settle successfully into school life. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENDCO and wider school staff to provide tailored support that meets the child's individual needs.
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Supporting the pupil's learning, communication and social development.
- Helping the child engage in classroom activities and routines.
- Implementing strategies and interventions recommended by school staff and external professionals.
- Assisting with personal care when required.
- Building a positive, trusting relationship to help the pupil feel safe, supported and confident in school.
- Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to the class teacher and SENDCO.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
- Have previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly those with complex or high levels of need.
- Be patient, caring and resilient, with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.
- Have experience working with children who are non-verbal or have communication difficulties.
- Be comfortable providing personal care support.
- Be able to build strong, professional relationships with pupils, staff and parents.
- Demonstrate a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
- Have a good understanding of how to support children with additional learning needs within an Early Years setting.
