Permanent opportunity for Assistant Project Manager (PROPERTY) at Manchester consultancy

Operating from the Manchester office the team contributes to projects both regionally and nationwide, supporting clients throughout the lifecycle of construction and development schemes.

These include project and programme management, cost management and quantity surveying, employer’s agent duties, building surveying, and health and safety advisory roles. It also provides specialist support in areas such as contract administration, dispute resolution, sustainability, and work on heritage or complex buildings.

Its experience spans a variety of sectors such as residential, retail, hospitality, healthcare, and infrastructure, often involving complex or high-value developments.

Your new role

An opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of fast-paced construction projects across the hospitality and retail sectors. This role will involve working on a diverse portfolio including new build developments, refurbishments, conversions, and fit-out schemes for hotel groups, pub chains, and fast food operators.
The successful candidate will assist in managing projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of construction projects across multiple sites, including:
    • New build developments
    • Refurbishment and upgrade schemes
    • Change of use / conversion projects
    • Interior fit-out programmes
  • Assist in managing the full project lifecycle, including planning, procurement, construction, and handover
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project progress
  • Monitor project programmes, budgets, and risk registers, identifying and escalating issues where required
  • Support procurement processes, including tender preparation, contractor selection, and contract administration
  • Undertake regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with health & safety standards
  • Assist in managing project documentation, reporting, and tracking of key milestones
  • Contribute to value engineering and cost control to ensure projects achieve best value outcomes
  • Support the resolution of technical and operational challenges throughout the project lifecycle

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years experience (placement, internship, or junior role) within construction, fit-out, or property consultancy
  • Understanding of project management principles and construction processes
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and within a team
  • Familiarity with project management tools and Microsoft Office packages
  • Knowledge of common construction contracts (e.g. JCT, D+B, Traditional)
